Conceptual art

…is art in which the concept or idea involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic, technical, and material concerns. -WIKI

I like to make weird stuff. I have been doing conceptual art since my years at the School of the Art institute of Chicago (2008). My work has been included in Art Chicago, the Motion Graphics Festivals, various physical/digital publications, etc… Projects range from mainly, but not limited to, 3d animation and motion graphics video installations. My art attempts to challenge common thought, be subtle, visually interesting, and create it’s own meanings to audiences(much like a song would). Below are some of my conceptual art examples.

(Techno-romanticism) series

A series of video installations exploring concepts around techno-romanticism genre. Specifically focusing on the ideas of romanticizing digital beings and intimate moments in their relationships. Visually, my goal is create something that no one had seen before, rides the line between designy and experimental, and blurs assumptions regarding process. Technically speaking each piece experiments with the limitations of software tools to create organic glitches, generative-art-like visuals, and morphing effects. Below are the pieces in reverse chronological order.

New Love (working title)

Here is a peek of what will eventually be the 3rd, and probably final, chapter to the other 2 videos below in the same genre. I intend to incorporate new experimental and commercial motion graphics techniques I have gathered over the years to create a more character narrative driven story. Also, while continuing to innovate in glitch design and explore the realm of technoromance.

Physical world

This is one of my early 3D projects and was included in a couple known national exhibits. It’s the 2nd chapter after the “Chimera” piece I previous did (next video down), but a little more designy and graphic. Technically, I reused the same process used to create the first video.

Chimera

…was my first 3D project and it showcased at the motion graphics festival. At the time(2010) it was pretty conceptually and technically advanced. Generative art was pretty hip, but there wasn’t much of a designed/controlled look or “commercial” use for it. This attemps to do that with innovative process that create a generative-art look, visual glitches, and morphing effects that appear organic and/or code based.

Garden of Digital Delights *PHSCologram

…is an homage to five unique artists who were inspired by flora culture, spanning innovations in vintage photographic processes, such as those explored by Man Ray, Imogen Cunningham and Robert Mapplethorpe, juxtaposed with video installation art by Nam June Paik and the computer generated imagery of Charles Csuri. Each panel is part of an electronic bouquet that lyrically connects these artists with nature, featuring virtual orchids and calla lilies that are illuminated as a digital sculpture reminiscent of Paik's Garden of Earthly Delights.

Unfortunately, I had to leave this project for other opportunities and the person that took over didn’t finish. So, it was left unfinished and rendered out in the unfinished state. If anything, I would like to see the background get broken up and placed further out on different planes to give more depth and finished look.
